Who is eligible to apply?
Candidates must have completed all doctoral requirements within the past three years and no later than September 1, 2027. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in sociology and plan to pursue an academic career in a sociology department, business school, public policy program, or other relevant field. We particularly encourage applications from scholars with diverse backgrounds and from a broad range of PhD-granting institutions.
What research background are you looking for?
We seek scholars with research expertise at the intersection of gender and race in organizations (broadly defined, from schools to workplaces). Ideal candidates should demonstrate excellence in rigorous quantitative and/or qualitative research methods, have a collaborative approach to research, and show commitment to translating research findings for both academic and non-academic audiences.
When does the program start and how long does it last?
The position begins on September 1, 2027 and runs through August 30, 2029 (two years).
What are the key application due dates?
- Application deadline: February 20, 2027
- Interview notifications: Selected candidates will be notified and may be asked for additional materials and interviews
- Final selections: By the end of April 2027
How will applications be evaluated?
Candidates will be assessed based on their scientific record and potential, commitment to scholarship that can impact public policy or social outcomes, potential contributions to the Lab's research community and Stanford Impact Lab programs, and potential for careers that address historical inequities through research.
What is expected beyond research?
Scholars’ primary responsibility is to advance their own research and prepare for the academic job market. In addition, they are expected to mentor students, meet regularly with their Faculty Advisor, and participate in the Stanford Impact Labs’ Emerging Scholars Fellowship training program and Lab activities.
