Marbella Eboni Hill

Marbella Eboni is a sociological scholar of Gender and Family Studies whose interests lie at the intersection of race, gender, and class. Her book in progress locates upward mobility as a meaning-making experience for Black professionals and investigates how upward mobility shapes the (re)construction of race and class identities and family formation decision-making. Her research advances theories of Black femininity, Black masculinity, Marriage/Family, Cultural studies, and Class. Her work has been published in Gender & Society, Journal of Marriage and Family, and the American Journal of Public Health

Marbella received a B.A. from UCLA in World Arts and Cultures. She completed a PhD in Sociology at Rice University in May 2021 before joining the VMware Women’s Leadership Lab at Stanford University as a postdoctoral fellow. In Fall 2023 she joined the Sociology and Anthropology department at North Carolina State University as an assistant professor of sociology.
