JoAnne Wehner

JoAnne Wehner is a sociologist and Senior Research Scholar for the Stanford VMware Innovation Lab. She designs, manages, and executes research projects at a variety of companies across Silicon Valley and beyond. Her work focuses on collaborating with leaders in companies to diagnose bias in their organizational structures and helping them design unique and research-based interventions for blocking unconscious bias. Her work played a critical role in developing the Lab’s “small wins” approach to change. Wehner holds a PhD and MA in sociology with a certificate in Socio-legal studies from the University of Washington. She received a BA in sociology from the University of California, Davis.

Wehner currently co-leads the Lab’s “The Future of Work” Research Project. This project explores the ways companies are thinking about and approaching the future of work with a particular focus on how to create more inclusive teams and organizations in hybrid, remote, and in-person environments.
